Terms of service

Welcome to CodeRoots. By using our website, web app or mobile app (the “service”) you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.

1. About CodeRoots

CodeRoots is a learning platform for young people in Suriname to learn programming and entrepreneurship. The service includes courses (e.g. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, React, entrepreneurship), lessons, exercises, progress tracking and optional Premium content. The service is offered via this website, a web app and mobile apps (iOS and Android).

2. Use of the service

2.1 Account

For certain parts of the service you must create an account. You must provide accurate, up-to-date information. You are responsible for keeping your login details secret and for all activity under your account.

2.2 Personal, non-commercial use

The service is intended for personal learning. You may not copy, distribute or commercially exploit the content at scale. You may not use the service to disrupt the service, networks or systems, or to infringe others’ rights.

2.3 Age

CodeRoots is aimed at young people. If you are under 16, we recommend having permission from a parent or guardian. By creating an account you confirm you may use the service under the laws that apply to you.

3. Premium and payments

Some content (Premium) is available for a fee. Payments for subscriptions or one-off purchases go through the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (Google). Apple’s and Google’s terms and refund policies apply to those purchases. We are not responsible for billing by those platforms.

Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel before the end of the current period. Cancel via your Apple or Google account settings. After cancellation you retain Premium access until the end of the paid period.

Refunds are handled in the first instance according to the App Store or Google Play policy.

4. Intellectual property

All rights in the service—including but not limited to the CodeRoots name, logo, lessons, text, images, mascots, course structure and software—belong to CodeRoots or its licensors. You receive a limited, non-exclusive licence to use the service for personal learning. You may not republish, resell, modify or otherwise distribute the content without written permission.

5. Availability and maintenance

We aim to keep the service available and stable but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. We may suspend the service temporarily for maintenance or updates. We may change or discontinue parts or all of the service, with reasonable notice where possible.

6. No warranty; limitation of liability

The service is provided “as is”. We do not warrant that the content is error-free or complete or that you will achieve any particular outcome (e.g. a job or diploma). We are not liable for indirect, consequential or lost profit damages, or damage from inability to use the service or from third parties (such as app stores or payment providers). Our liability is in all cases limited to the amount you paid for the service in the past year, or if no payment: to a reasonable maximum.

7. Termination

You may stop using your account and the service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if we have reasonable grounds to believe you breach these terms or the law, or misuse the service. Upon termination your right to use the service ends; existing payments are non-refundable except where required by law or app store policy.

8. Changes to the terms

We may change these terms. The current version is on this page with the date of last change. Continued use after publication of changes constitutes acceptance. For substantial changes we will try to inform you in advance where possible.

9. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Disputes are resolved by mutual consultation where possible; otherwise the competent courts in the Netherlands and applicable statutory provisions apply, unless the law of your country of residence requires otherwise.
