Privacy policy
CodeRoots is a learning platform for young people in Suriname to learn programming and entrepreneurship. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have.
1. Who we are
CodeRoots is offered by the data controller responsible for processing your data. For questions about this policy or your data, contact us at nathanjethoe007@gmail.com.
2. What data do we collect?
Data you provide
- Account data: email address and password (or other sign-in method) when you create an account.
- Profile: display name or profile photo if you add them.
Data collected automatically
- Usage data: lesson progress, points, badges and courses you follow. We need this to run the app for you.
- Technical data: device type (phone, tablet, browser), operating system and similar information so the app and website work properly.
Payments (Premium)
If you subscribe to Premium, payments are processed by the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (Android). We do not receive your card details. We may see whether you have an active subscription (via store APIs) to grant access to Premium content.
3. How we use your data
- To create and manage your account and let you sign in on the app and web app.
- To save your progress (lessons, courses, points, badges) so you can continue where you left off.
- To improve the service (e.g. fix bugs, improve performance).
- Where applicable: communication about your account or important changes (e.g. password reset email).
- To comply with legal obligations when required.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
4. Legal basis and retention
We process your data on the basis of performing the agreement (use of the platform), your consent where we ask for it (e.g. certain cookies or newsletters), and, where necessary, our legitimate interests (e.g. security, improving the service).
We keep your data while your account is active. After cancellation or deletion of your account, we may retain data for a limited period for backups or legal obligations, then delete or anonymise it.
5. Sharing with third parties
We work with services that help us run the app and website:
- Firebase (Google): authentication and storage of data (e.g. progress). Processing is subject to Google’s terms.
- App Store / Google Play: distributing and billing the app and any Premium subscriptions.
- Analytics (if any): if we use anonymous statistics to understand usage, we do so without identifying you where possible.
We do not share your data with third parties for their own marketing.
6. Your rights
You have the right to:
- access the personal data we process about you;
- request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data;
- request deletion of your data (where legally possible);
- object to certain processing;
- withdraw consent where applicable.
You can exercise these rights by contacting us. You may also delete your account and related data yourself in the app (profile settings) where that option is available.
If you believe we violate your privacy, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
7. Security
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. Login credentials and sensitive data are transmitted and stored using encryption.
8. Minors
CodeRoots is intended for young people. If you are under 16, we recommend discussing with a parent or guardian before creating an account. Parents can contact us to request deletion of their child’s data.
9. Changes
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The current version is always on this page; the date of the last change is shown at the top. For material changes we will try to notify you where reasonable (e.g. via the app or email).
